Phase 2 Reflection:
How do I think I performed in Phase 2? I think that I did great overall. I kept up with deadlines and got through a good amount of LabSim early. I have already completed A6 Spreadsheet Analysis with Trailer, and I'm happy with how I did. The assignment also helped me see how the skills I have learned can be applied.
Section 5.8.3 Chart Facts:
Lesson 5.8.3 in LabSim taught me how to use charts within Excel. Charts are an excellent tool that allow you to display a large amount of data in an easy to digest way. There are many types of charts in Excel, but the most commonly used ones are: column, line, pie, and scatter charts. Column charts show the difference between sets of data. Line charts show the change of data over time. Pie charts show data as part of a whole. Finally, scatter charts show the connection between variables.
How can I apply what I have learned in Phase 2 outside of IS101?
How can I utilize the skills I have learned in Phase 2 outside of IS101? I believe the most helpful skill I learned from this phase is function use. I have previous experience with coding, so the idea of functions and formulas is not new to me, but I have never used them with a spreadsheet before. I took an accounting class in my prior semester, and this class relied heavily on Excel. These skills, had I known them, would have been useful at the time. Future careers or classes that rely on Excel will be much easier now that I have this knowledge.
Will I push myself to perform at my best for Phase 3?
Will I push myself to perform at my best for the next phase? Yes, I plan to do so. I will strive to get through and complete Phase 3 and MO-310 on time.
Very glad to hear A6 helped you see how what you learned can be applied!
ReplyDeleteA picture is worth a thousand words... or a bunch of numbers. Good delineation of what each type of chart is best used for :-)
Yes, future careers or classes that rely on Excel will definitely be much easier after IS101, Scott ^_^
Hi Scott, I like how your reflection sounds calm and organized while the rest of us were mentally wrestling Excel formulas at 1 in the morning like it was a final boss fight. The part about charts stood out because Excel charts always look simple until the program suddenly decides your data belongs in a graph that resembles a medical heart monitor during a crisis.
ReplyDeleteI also relate to what you said about function use becoming more valuable over time because Excel has a way of exposing people who think “I can just do this manually.” A6 really did feel like one of those assignments where you realize spreadsheets are not just for class anymore and that someday an office job might expect us to actually know what we are doing.
It is also impressive that you already completed so much LabSim early because my strategy has mostly been panic, overanalyze, and hope the formulas stop judging me personally. Hopefully Phase 3 treats us kindly, although based on IS101 tradition, I fully expect PowerPoint animations to become emotionally threatening somehow.
Hi Scott, functions are definitely a helpful skill to know in that it would save you a lot of time and energy to have them mastered. Excel doesn't only apply to accounting but to organizing information as a whole. I never realized how useful it could be until finishing phase 2.
ReplyDeleteHello Scott, functions were tough for me. I really enjoyed using them after I understood them better but learning them slowed me down a bit. Excellent job passing your MO-310 exam!
ReplyDeleteHi Scott, charts and functions are definitely some of the most useful Excel skills, especially for organizing and understanding data. It’s great that you are staying ahead with assignments and preparing for Phase 3.
ReplyDeleteHaving prior knowledge in Excel is cheating! Just kidding that's actually helpful having an idea on what you do. Phase 2 is a hassle and most of the learning needs to be applied fast or else you'll forget about it the next day. The topic you chose for this blog always makes me wonder hoe people invented different kind of charts. Like who woke up and tells themselves "I would want a pie chart in my data" and go on with their day. More power to your Phase 3!
ReplyDeleteHi Scott. I agree that charts are important to help you with studying data. It is hard to see how different pieces of data compare without them.
ReplyDeleteHello Scott, looks like you have a really good work ethic! At times it was hard for me to keep up with the work. It's cool to see just how many people have said how much this class has helped them in other classes and at work.
ReplyDeleteHi Scott, I am glad you set a goal to go through Phase 3 smoothly. Charts can be helpful and honestly now studying Excel deeper I started liking Combo Chart. It makes the data easier to understand.
ReplyDeleteHi Scott, I like how you connected Excel functions to coding because they honestly do feel similar once you start understanding the logic behind them. And charts ended up being way more useful than I expected for making data easier to understand quickly.
ReplyDeleteHello Scott. It's great that you've been able to go through this class at a nice pace. A6 was really good with teaching us about situations we might see in real life work settings. Formatting the charts was a little confusing for me at first, but I got the hang of it eventually. Knowing where you might need one specific chart rather than another is important to know.
ReplyDeleteHi Scott, the charts within excel absolutely stood out and was a great topic to choose. Learning how to customize and implement the information within excel into a chart makes things easier for everyone else to understand what they are seeing. An option like that is a great thing to make use of while working within excel.
ReplyDeleteHey Scott! Glad to hear you are happy with your Spreadsheet analysis with trailer assignment. I also had fun with it, too much in fact that I made the size too big to submit because of 3D models. The topic you picked seems to go with A6 too, so I just thought that was cool haha :)
ReplyDeleteHey Scott, that's cool to hear about coding, I only know one person that I went to school with, I'm not close but he was coding in HS and after too. There's so much that you can have fun with but glad you enjoyed your work.
ReplyDeleteHi Scott, you really did an excellent job in this class, and the fact that you had previous coding and accounting experience makes a lot of sense to how you performed so well in a lot of the exams and assignments. You and a couple others are quite inspiring when it comes to successful work in this class. Have a good one and keep up the hard work!
ReplyDeleteHi Scott! Great job setting goals to push yourself for Phase 3!
